A little more on plastic bags

I guess all this time while I was off not blogging, I was still collecting info. Recently, there has been a little more info on plastic bags that I wanted to share with you all. Mostly I wanted to share this clip that aired on CNN:
The video features the Bag Monster, who I try to follow when I can.

I also thought this was a good article for dog owners who want to rid their lives of plastic bags. What do you pick the dog poop up with? Check out the article for some good suggestions.

  1. That's a great clip; thanks for posting!

At our house, we've started recycling all of our plastic bags, wraps and packaging (e.g. bags frozen vegetables come in, cereal and cracker box liners, etc.) by taking them to our local Giant grocery store, who accepts plastic bags for recycling. I just wash them out and dry them before recycling. Usually, I take two packed plastic shopping bags full every week to be recycled. It's an alarming amount of plastic that just got thrown away before, and also how dependent our society is on this type of packaging.

Ideally, it would be great to have the option to shop without all this packaging, but I feel that's a time commitment that's larger than I can make, and totally unrealistic for what's available to us at our local food stores.

So I do the next best thing, which I think is something most people could do if it were made easier to do. It would be great to have the option of curbside plastic bag/packaging/wrap recycling, which I think would make this more accessible to the average American family.

  2. Thanks again for the tip Allison! Yes, it is alarming once we become conscious of the waste around us...
